Prof. Dr. Sedat Murat

Prof. Dr. Sedat Murat has been Vice Rector of Istanbul University since 2012.

Prof.Dr. Sedat Murat was born in Samsun in 1959. He completed primary, secondary and high school education in Samsun and Kocaeli. In 1984, he graduated from Marmara University Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences. He became research assistant in 1985 at the Department of Labour Economics and Industrial Relations of the Faculty of Economics in Istanbul University, where he began his graduate education in September 1984. He obtained his M.Sc. degree with the thesis named as "Worker Training at the Level of Firm”. He continued his doctorate studies at the same department until 1991, when he obtained his PHD degree. His doctoral thesis titled “Youth Unemployment in Generally and Turkey Aspects of Socioeconomic” has been supervised by Prof.Dr. Nevzat Yalçıntaş. He became Assistant Professor in 1992, Associate Professor in 1994 and Professor in 2002.

Prof. Dr. Sedat Murat is head of department of Labour Economics and Industrial Relations of the Faculty of Economics in Istanbul University since 2008 and also he is head of the Committee of Ethics for the Public Servants since September 2012. Besides, Prof. Dr. Sedat Murat served as dean of Faculty of Economics in Istanbul University from 2010 to 2012.

Some of the areas related to his academic expertise are: “Social Policy, Labour Economics, Organizational Behaviour, Industrial Relations”. He has published 35 international and national articles and 25 books.

Vice Rector of Istanbul University, Prof. Dr. Sedat Murat, speaks English fluently. He is married and has two children.
